Teaching About God More Effectively With A Bible Timeline Banner

In our Bible group some years ago, a friend who had been a Christian and laboured in the Church for years, said,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they were not talking about the pre-Moses law) I wonder how many Christians would actually notice the inaccuracy in this claim. Moses existed about five hundred years after Abraham and so it is not possible. I have since then made up a Bible chronological banner and explained in a more graphic way the chronology of people and occasions.

Some time ago, I was speaking on the life, death, resurrection and burial of Jesus, and a retired pastor and strong preacher of the Gospel, who had been a minister for forty years, marched up and reproved me vigorously over some fascinating points I made and he referred to 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I humbly asked him if I was teaching anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he said"No". I continued on to spell out that in the case of that particular Scripture, it was not speaking to examining the Bible but to the false teaching and philosophy of the Gnostics, but he wouldn't accept it. Let me ask, how can a forty year minister & laborer in the Gospel, not understand and know about a thing that probably 1/2 the books of the New Testament refer to?
How can he study and teach the Bible clearly without being familiar with a thing that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to understand these things and be in a position to interpret their Bible well, if they are not told?
Let's us as teachers and preachers sew together the fragments of the Bible and His plan into a complete picture that our people are able to draw on for the remainder of life, helping them to understand God, His Eternal Plan, the role of the Church and ways to better interpret the Bible to live by.
It is not hard to do, and it is not boring if we're prepared to put in a bit of study with prayer and fervor, and just maybe you can make use of a Bible Timeline also.
